This poem is a celebration of 30 years of love, laughter, and everything in between. I wrote it as a reflection on the beautiful, chaotic, journey of our 30 year marriage.
Raise Your Glass to 30 Years
Raise your glass to 30 years,
30 years of endless cheers –
Saying “I do,”
And wiping the tears.
30 years of whispering goodnight,
30 years of morning sunlight,
And all the moments in between,
Thinking back to the young man – handsome and shy,
Hoping and praying he’d say hi.
30 years of taking out the dogs,
Feeding the kids, changing diapers,
And slopping the hogs.
30 years of goodnight kisses,
30 years of planned-out visits –
Doctors, grandparents, and the zoo,
Trick-or-treating and the park too.
30 years of pointing fingers,
Deep talks while the coffee lingers,
Late-night hugs, cleaning throw-up too –
Still so happy I said “I do.”
Arguments a-plenty,
Laughter galore –
“Get up, I heard a noise,”
“Go lock the front door!”
30 years of glass half full,
30 years of sometimes being a fool,
30 years – my cup runneth over,
30 years – my love grows bolder.
30 years of putting each other first,
30 years of hearing each other’s words,
30 years of saying “I’m sorry,”
30 years of being each other’s army.
30 years of saying “I love you,”
30 years of blaming the other
30 years of marital bliss,
30 years – how did we do this?
Lots of grace – before and after,
Forgiving through heartbreak and laughter,
Holding the door,
Pounds of respect,
Pushing forward through every test.
So raise your glass to 30 more –
30 more years of calling you my own,
30 more years – how could I have known?
30 more years of joyous wonder,
30 more years of deep love, like no other.
